Dear Advocates, Georgia Parent Support Network (GPSN) is sharing NAMI’s advocacy alert in support of statewide efforts addressing House Bill 295.Over 21% of the Georgia’s homeless population has a serious mental illness. HB 295 criminalizes homelessness and encourages cities and counties to arrest people who are homeless or be faced with a tax reduction by property owners who have people who are homeless on their property thus criminalizing mental health. People with SMI deserve Help Not Handcuffs. Please call or email key members of the House Rules Committee and urge them to oppose House Bill 295 and prevent it from advancing to a floor vote. You may use the suggested talking points below, but we strongly encourage you to share your personal experiences and perspectives as well. If you are a constituent of any committee member—or have a direct connection to them—be sure to mention that at the beginning of your message.Click here to act now!
