A Candlelight Vigil for Those Affected by Mass Detention & Deportation was held on February 22 at the US Courthouse in downtown Athens. Over 250 folks heard from a number of clergy – Presbyterian, Jewish, Quakers, Methodist, Islamic Center, Baptist, LDS and Unitarian Universalist – quoted various scriptures and beliefs. There were songs, stories of local families impacted by detention and the listing of the 41 who died in detention or by ICE in the community. A score of of UUFA members were present. For media coverage visit Athens-area Interfaith Sanctuary Coalition (ISC) which co-sponsored the event along with the Interfaith Clergy Partnership of Greater Athens. ICPGA is co-chaired by UUFA’s Rev. Pippin.
